Sustainability in Fast Fashion
In May of 2023 I took a Sustainability in Supply Chain course in which our fina project was to highlight how society and decisions we take in Supply Chain directly impact sustainability.
Our group, formed by Gretchen Gilmore, Maria Egan, Mailyn Santibanez-Tanon, and myself, did a lot of brainstorming months prior to the project deadline. Some of our considerations were the use of plastic in packaging, deforestation caused by unsustainable sourcing, circular economy and its sustainable impact, and a few others. We landed our decision to focus on fast fashion leading to waste of production and environmental pollution, as well as mistreatment of employees in its supply chain. For around two months we conducted heavy research to learn about the topic and present our results.
We learned that fast fashion has revolutionized the way we consume clothing, but its rapid rise comes at a significant cost to the environment, society and resilience of global supply chains. In our presentation, I took part in providing the social and ethical concerns as well as different supply chain challenges. We also highlighted environmental impacts, regulatory landscape, and a call to action. It was a great learning experience for our group, but also to our classmates and our professor.
